God Gave Us a Powerful Weapon—Prayer!
Each year the first Thursday of May has been designated as the “National Day of Prayer.” I look forward to it, and the prayers offered up to the Lord in our Capitol building, church gatherings, and at home are a powerful weapon against the enemy.
This year’s theme was James 5:16 “The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” Each time we pray through our groanings, our requests, our dedicated time with the Lord, He hears our prayers! Collectively, our prayers are even more powerful. Think of a group of soldiers battle ready. The plans are made, the strategy is understood, and action is about to begin. Our prayer is even more powerful because we have the almighty God leading the way.
Remember prayer does not need to be complicated, it can be simple, a few words, repetitive, tear filled, full of praise, and/or praying actual scripture. We need to pray continually, without ceasing with a sincere heart. Remember we don’t need to wait for someone to set up a date to pray for our nation—we can pray with fervency, and expectation that the Lord hears our prayers and will take action to bring our families and nation back to righteousness!
Below is the link to this year’s National Day of Prayer highlights. I hope you enjoy it.
Scriptures that confirm that prayer is a powerful weapon:
2 Corinthians 10:4-5 (ESV)
4 For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds.
5 We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ
James 5:16b (NKJV)
The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.
Ephesians 6:18 (NLT)
Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.
